The Greatest Gift of All Is Jesus

With all the busyness of the holiday season and its emphasis on gift giving and gift buying, it’s all too easy to forget that Jesus is the greatest gift from the Father.

James 1:17 says “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.”

Jesus is the long awaited Savior, who was prophesied to come in the book of Genesis, when God told the serpent that He would put enmity between it and the seed of the woman. While the serpent would strike His heel (by His crucifixion) ultimately Jesus would crush his head (when He was resurrected).

Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection…

We are children of God.
He calls us His friends.
We have been justified.
We have been bought with a price and belong to God.
We are members of the Body of Christ.
We are chosen by God and adopted as His children.
We have been redeemed and forgiven of all our sins.
We are overcomers.
We receive eternal life!

Knowing these truths should cause us to rejoice no matter what the circumstances of the holiday may hold. The expectations of a perfect holiday can be overwhelming to fulfill. In a fallen world, no Christmas will ever be perfect. Until Jesus returns, there will be struggles with finances, sicknesses and death.

Let’s give thanks to our Lord and Savior for His incomprehensible gift of redemption. We can honor Him throughout the year by loving each other, reaching out to the poor in spirit in His name, and remembering His death.

I pray your family has a Blessed Christmas celebration – May His presence be felt in your home!

Day Sixteen

I am so excited to share with you a post written by my dear husband.  This just made sense to me, to allow my husband to share about his father, one who was so important to him and our entire family – especially in honor of Father’s Day. I think his message is a great father/son related one, but I also took away some great tid-bits that are true for us all.

I can’t believe that I’ve been given the chance to post to my lovely bride’s blog.  For years, I’ve asked to participate and share with her audience, and of course to call myself “The Confident Dad”.  Makes sense right?  Well, she’s finally relented for Father’s Day and I’ll try not to embarrass her. Day Thirteen

One of the best gift ideas for dad on Father’s Day is to give him the day off to have fun and relax.  {I know that mom’s everywhere would love to get a day off to have fun and relax – right?}

Combining relaxation and fun with being together is one way to cover all the bases.  How about a few ideas to toss around to come up with some activities you all can enjoy this coming Sunday?

Is dad a golfer? Terrific! Why not take him to the golf range, with the entire family, and spend the day!  As a surprise, you can present him with a driver!  Think how excited he will be to be able to a couple hours to hit balls at the range.  Make sure you bring a camera along to get some great action shots to view later.  An even better idea is to catch some video of the whole gang swinging at some balls.
