Love the Home You Have

Love the Home You Have book by Melissa Michaels

Do you struggle with finding Joy in your home?  Looking around at the mess and being thankful or even inspired with the mishmash of furniture you’ve collected?

I can tell you for years after my husband and I got married I looked around at the “stuff” and it was overwhelming and I had no inspiration.  Being a blended family has many challenges, but combining two homes into one is a challenge many do not talk about.

I was challenged.  So for over 7 years we just “made-do” and lived in a transition stage, which felt very much far from the home I dreamt of.  Recently I have made some changes and been inspired and I feel so much better about my home.  So when I began reading the first few pages of Melissa Michaels (The Inspired Room) new book, “Love the Home You Have,” I almost burst.  She was speaking to my heart, the one which was clogged up, uninspired and discouraged with the state of my home.

I know there are others moms who feel the same as I do, who are not combining two homes, but rather are feeling guilt from the Pinterest Perfect pictures we see of immaculate homes, kitchen counters with white marble counters void of clutter and beds made perfectly with matching pillows, sheets and dust ruffles.  It is discouraging and creates anxiety in me.  It can be too much.

This book is for you – and for me and the timing could not be better!

I have read Melissa’s blog for years and I love her style.  If you haven’t taken a peek at her blog before you are in for a delightful surprise.  Not only do I love her style, her love of Doodles and coffee, but she is a local Puget Sound gal too – kindred spirits!!

If you are not sure if this book might be for you  – take a minute to watch this short trailer for her book = HERE.    Wasn’t it great???

I have only began reading the first few chapters, but I am hooked.  I love that she asks engaging questions in the book to really get your heart involved – and space to fill them in – right there in the book.  Her writing style is completely real, authentic and motivational.  I feel like I have a new outlook.

I need to shed some things in my life so I can add the things that matter, remember my word for 2015 – MARGIN?  Yes, I am still working for that, and this quote from the book spoke to my heart on a deep level.

I want to be more creative in my home, in my friendships and with my family.  I know it is often stifled because of my obligations and commitments – which can be all good, but lately it has become too much.

We have already picked our next book study, but I think this one – especially with it’s 31 day Challenge at the end of the book would make an excellent one in the future!

Grab a copy today and join me.  I am on a little vacation at the beach this week and I have my copy ready for some cozy reading.

The Reality, Truth, and Hope of Living Emotionally Whole

The Reality, Truth, and Hope of Living Emotionally Whole

I began to share my journey with emotional mama overload and brain overload almost a year and a half ago. I was a bit scared to share my first post on using Joy, but you all were so gracious with me! It was not something I really talked about much, but I knew the Lord was calling me to step outside my comfort zone and bring others into the light and not be ashamed of this condition.

I know so many other moms struggle with emotional balance, mom overwhelm, the racing heart, weepiness, and hopelessness. For me, it was a struggle for over 15 years. There would be ups and downs, good times and bad times, and some really bad times.

For instance, shortly after I was married to my wonderful, “dreamy”, perfect for me husband, I fell into a complete black hole of an abyss. He knew about my emotional struggles and accepted me wholeheartedly, but he had not seen the deep fallings, those times I couldn’t hold it together and “look” alright.

I was in bed for 5 days, not moving, not eating, crying uncontrollably and feeling desperate and hopeless, but I couldn’t express it. He was scared and rightly so. He helped me, walked alongside me and we entered a season of combating this ugly, suffocating, and debilitating condition.

I should have been the happiest “new bride”, but I was miserable and overwhelmed.

I shared a little over a year ago that I was on a journey to support my mood naturally. It was something I had tried to do many times in my life – yet failed. I have been successful and want to bring hope to others!

I know that God has redeemed my story in a way to share and be a light to other moms who are struggling in the same pattern as I was. Who are lost, hopeless, and overwhelmed with sadness. Through constant prayer, lifestyle changes, and being more aware of my emotional needs, I have become a conqueror!

I want you all to know, even in the midst of despair, you can realize HOPE! I have found essential oils to be very helpful in supporting my mood and helping me feel whole, refreshed, and vibrant.

God can redeem and He does it everyday!

I still do many of the things that I shared in my post a year ago, but I have added a few more things I think would be helpful for those who are looking to change their life living with unstable moods. Prayer, essential oils, and diet can make a huge difference! I do not feel I am healed completely, as I do still struggle, but the difference is I recognize signs that are very common to me now and find an oil to help counteract those feelings and keep things from escalating – or spiraling out of control.

NingXia Red

I began drinking NingXia Red about a year ago, every day – consistently 1-2 ounces.  This is an amazing antioxidant drink made with wolfberry superfruit and 100 percent pure essential oils. It gives me energy and helps keep my immune system working in full swing. I have my whole family drinking it too!

Epsom Salt baths

My one continued self-care need during the week is at least ONE bath. The magnesium is critical to good sleep and detoxing the body and why not get a few minutes of down time? I love using Lavender, Peace and Calming, and Rosemary in my Epsom Salt bath. Just depends on my mood what I will pick!

Paleo Diet/Gluten-Free

I have continued a journey of healthier eating, which includes eating mainly gluten-free, which I have done now for over two years, but also switched to a more paleo diet – having raw milk, pastured pork, grass-fed beef and grain-free, free range eggs. This has helped a great deal with feeling good emotionally and helping with my Lupus symptoms. Of course, it makes perfect sense, putting good stuff in the body helps it run to it’s best ability!

Essential Oils

I incorporate several oils everyday for emotional support. I shared a lot about my daily routine in my post on a Day in the Life Of an Oily Mom – so you can hop over there and check it out. I have on hand and use at different times through out the day:  Joy, Peace and Calming, Harmony, Stress Away, Inspiration, Acceptance, White Angelica, Valor, and Orange.

Quiet Time

This is my key ingredient to living a full life – when I am struggling to find quiet time with God, my life struggles. I enjoy being involved in our online book studies (can’t wait to start the new one on Monday!), having community with a group of ladies locally and being accountable to, as well as prayer and worship music. It all flows together and when it does, it truly helps. When things begin to unravel for me, I can quickly pin-point to a lack of time alone with God and in His word.

Using essential oils with prayer is very helpful. I look back at my life over a year ago and am so thankful to be on a new path and journey to better health!
