Week Six – The Best Yes

We are on the final home stretch.   I know many have struggled to keep up with the reading, I so encourage you to at least read the chapters for the end to finish strong with us.  I will not lie…. I will be pushing myself to read the end of the book to get ready for my final blog post tomorrow as well as prepare for the Facebook Chat at 6:15 PM Pacific.

Get prepared for talk of insecurities, growth, togetherness and more.

This week we are reading Chapters 16-19 of The Best Yes.

This quote touched my heart and almost made me cry (okay, I was having an extremely emotional day and it did make me cry!)

“Together is a really good word.  Together is what we need when we hit tough patches in life.  Making decisions when life is making you cry shouldn’t be done alone.”

Doesn’t that just nearly melt your heart?

I want to learn to be wise, seek wisdom from those who are further in the journey than myself and then share my experiences with those coming up behind me.

Join us tomorrow evening on the Facebook page for a fun time of sharing, refreshment and celebrating our last week of The Best Yes!  I’ll remind you one more time tomorrow during my blog post – but you can mark it on your calendar now.  đź™‚

Week Five – The Best Yes

This week we are talking about avoiding the traps of people pleasing.  I honestly never really thought of myself as a people pleaser, but now that I am examining different areas of my life and why I feel led to say YES to so many, I can see that I fit in as a people pleaser too.

If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.  Galatians 1:10 NLT

This week we are reading Chapters 13-15 of The Best Yes.

I loved listening to these chapters while I drove back ALONE in my car from doing an essential oils class last week.  It’s not very often, as I know you all can relate, that I am in the car alone with silence enough to do such a marvelous thing!

I went back and re-read the chapters briefly, underlining and highlighting so I can share some key points from my perspective with you all tomorrow.  I love how our discussions on the Facebook page bring in so many different viewpoints and really open up the discussion.  I think about things that were not even on my radar when someone else shares from their heart.  Community is key in getting even more out of a study.  đź™‚

I was especially touched with this line of the book this week, “Don’t waste it.  Let it make you aware.  be an extension of God’s love right now.”   I want to keep this close to my heart and be used – open to His whispers.

Did you see where our blog, this space is opening up to care for another Compassion child??!!!!  I am thrilled.  Everyone is making a difference, every little bit and I am so thankful I was aware and open to hear His whisper to use this place for that calling.

“We want big directional signs from God.  God just wants us to pay attention.”  pg 170

If you are participating in the extra reading of Proverbs, you’ll want to be sure to read Proverbs 26 – 31.

I will see you back here tomorrow with my thoughts on this weeks reading.  Be sure to hop over to the Facebook page and share in the community!

Week Four – The Best Yes

Last week’s reading really stuck with me, the element of trading things in our life before we add other things as a way to help us determine our Best Yes.  This is certainly an area I need to work on more, as I am better at saying yes to something more and not letting go of something else.

I loved this verse in Chapter Nine

“The choices we make will determine if we end up with the virtue of wisdom or the vice of folly.”

I want to be a woman of wisdom, like the one described in Proverbs 9: 1-6 not the one that is described in Proverbs 9: 13-18.  Things to take with me as I move ahead into our next section of reading.

This week we are reading Chapters 10-12 of The Best Yes.

We will be exploring expectations – both realistic and unrealistic, the power of the small No (can’t wait to understand that one more) as well as handling those awkward times we have to say No.

I hope as you’ve made your way through the book you’ve become more aware of situations in the past were you’ve accepted responsibilities without truly thinking about them.  Understanding where we have created patterns of behavior that do not help us are important to helping to change the future.

Many of you have become a bit frustrated that you have not kept up with the reading or sharing on the Private FB group – the book will always be here and you will find the time when it is YOUR Best Yes.  I encourage you to take the time now though and not to miss this time to share together with other women who are traveling this journey with you.  I know the Lord has a blessing in store for you, if you commit.

If you are participating in the extra reading of Proverbs, you’ll want to be sure to read Proverbs 20 – 25.

There was to be a Live Facebook Chat this week, on Thursday at 6:15 PM, but we are having to cancel that chat due to an unexpected scheduling conflict.  Do not worry, we have one more set for the last week of our study and I know it will be fun to reflect on our growth together as a group!

I will see you back here tomorrow with my thoughts on this weeks reading.  Be sure to hop over to the Facebook page and share in the community!

In addition to these wonderful classics, the Ultimate Bundles team snagged 12 heart-stirring devotionals from authors like A.W. Tozer and Nancy Leigh DeMoss that speak to matters of faith that are sure to inspire. Let’s not forget Gary Chapman’s Extraordinary Grace or Ray Comfort’s Way of the Master for sharing your faith with others. So as you can see, the Ultimate Christian Living Bundle is an extraordinary value.

But it still gets better…

The Ultimate Bundles team asked several sponsors to step up to the plate and with no strings attached, provide meaningful BONUS GIFTS. Life-Giving Moms Give Life

As I reflect on the past Eleven weeks of reading, pondering, discussions and prayer, I am feeling like I learned a lot about myself, yet once again!  I hope you feel the same.

This struck me as I began reading this last chapter:

“Sue, we did the best we could.”

Isn’t that all that matters?  Truly, we all want to do our best, and given different seasons of our life or different experiences – we all start at a different point and can only do the best we can do with what we know.  What our parents knew or were told about raising kids is completely different for the most part than what our generation is being told…..but that was what they knew.

Here is my transparency and authenticity – some of you may know this about me, but some may not.  I made the choice many years ago to leave my marriage and get divorced.  I felt at the time it was my only choice and I have taken responsibility for this choice.  I was not a believer in Christ, did not understand the full commitment of marriage and have held guilt in my heart for years because I made the choice for my kids to live in a divorced home.

I could live in this guilt and heaviness, or move forward in the best way possible.  I chose that.  Shortly after becoming a single mom, I did give my life to Christ and was blessed to learn how to live my life according to His guidelines.  I made choices that were not the best, but at the time they seemed the best.  I did the best I could.

“Learning to be a Life-Giving Mom without regrets requires embracing the season you are in.  You have to let go of the past and live in the present as you lay hold of the future.  At each transition you will likely shed some tears as you realize that you can’t go back and re-live the past.  You must move forward, facing the imperfections of your present, hoping for the future.”

Oh how I wish someone could have whispered these words into my ears 15 years ago!  I have grown to understand and embrace this type of thinking, but I wish I would have been given the grace – to myself much earlier in life.  I can’t go back, and completely realize that, I can only move forward.  God is using my mistakes, my failures to help others – I see it now, but would never have thought that years ago.

It is true, what Sue says, that all go through trials in our life and it is ONLY through those trials that our character is being perfected.  I would not be who I am NOW, if it had not been for the trials of before.

There are days I struggle to let go of the past and not dwell on choices I’ve made – but regret will get me nowhere but down.  I honestly think this had something to do with my depression for years – that I constantly could not give myself a break – there was no grace left for me.  Simple, but profound.

I pray that this study revealed areas of your life where you can rejoice over as well as ask for His guidance every single day. I think for me – I loved the prayers that I could use specifically asking for help – each and every day.  This is where the power is – receiving HIS power in my day.

Because you see…..I can’t do this all myself.  And when I begin to get cocky and think I can – I stumble and fall.  It is my wake-up call to reach out to Him.  To surrender and allow Him to guide me and fill me.

“Living in the present is being content with who you are.”
