Back-to-School-Germ-Buster-Young-Living11

If your kids aren’t already back in school – I know you are gearing up like me.  We head back next week and I know I had to share my ultimate favorite Immune Boosting Tips for our home.

If you are like me, a mom who really doesn’t want anyone to miss school because they are under the weather (I would much rather take a day off from school to have fun as a family!) then you will want some effective, all-natural immune boosting protection in your home.

Here is where Young Living’s exclusive Thieves Essential Oil blend comes into play.  I shared how much I love Thieves and how this particular oil turned my skeptic hubby into an essential oil believer in a previous post.

Using Thieves oil in our home, both diffused and topically has helped support our immune systems to be “fighting strong”  many times.

Wham, Bam, 1, 2, 3, Prepared!

We use a few other items in our daily routine to help support our body, come check them out.

Thieves Foaming Hand Soap

This all natural hand-cleansing formula contains the powerful Thieves essential oil blend but also contains gentle ingredients such as vitamin E, aloe vera, and Ginkgo biloba to help moisturize and soften the skin.  This is a staple in our home – no more hand soap with antimicrobial chemicals for us – especially after reading this article a few weeks back.  I found this interesting from the article:

“Triclosan and triclocarban are endocrine disruptors, Halden explains. The risk there is that the chemicals can mimic thyroid hormones, potentially disrupting the metabolism and causing weight gain or weight loss. Previous research has also shown a connection between higher levels of triclosan in urine, and allergy diagnoses in children.”   SOURCE

No thank you for me and my family.

I also love that I can purchase the large Foaming Hand Soap Refill – making it even more cost effective!

Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier

No water for washing hands – No worries!  Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier is designed to clean and freshen hands without water.  It also contains the powerful Thieves essential oil as well as active skin-moisturizing ingredients to prevent dry skin.  Plus the ethanol in this hand-purifier evaporates – love that!

I carry this in my purse, have one in the car and also in backpacks and more!  It is just the right size, making for easy pocket placement too.

Thieves Spray

Ready for the big guns?  Thieves Spray is an all-natural, petrochemical-free spray ideal for purifying surfaces like door handles, table tops at a restaurant, toilet seats, airplane trays and more.  It is very effective and may be used to spray surfaces that need cleaning from dust, residue and other undesirable microorganisms.

You know I love my Young Living Essentials Oil and the difference they have made in our overall wellness routine – are you a bit more curious?   Come check out how you can get your hands on some too!

Super Hero Back to School Shopping Tips

Back-to-School-Shopping-Tips

It’s that time of year! Your child needs school supplies and clothes. Where do you start? How do you pay for it all?

I love tips, especially easy tips for back to school – Here are some tips for making the grade with your grade school kid this year.

Dressed for Success

Your grade school child may not have the picky tastes of a teenager, but he or she is going to need some new clothes this year.  I know, we all hate the dreaded school shopping.  I love the season I am in right now.  I have a 17 year old who basically does his own shopping and we give him a budget.  I don’t have to worry about our 13 year old, and our 4 year old is very easy.  By the way, my favorite kid clothing store is Old Navy – purchasing online is my cup of tea!

Before you get started, make sure you go through last year’s clothing and find out what fits and what doesn’t. This includes shoes, socks, and underwear, too. Grade school kids can grow really fast!

Here are some more ideas for clothes shopping with your grade school child.

  • Plan your shopping trip for a day when you don’t have to rush, and when you don’t have anything planned the night before. Being rested and ready helps everyone’s mood, and so does being able to take your time. Or better yet, save time and energy by shopping online, especially for basics.  Target and Old Navy are perfect for underwear, socks and basic t-shirts.
  • Call the school where your child will be attending and make sure there aren’t any changes to the dress code. If your child will be attending this school for the first time, you’ll want to find out what the dress code is.
  • Keeping it simple helps a lot. Depending on his (or her) age, he will be better able to dress himself as the year goes on. Having easy-to-fasten clothes can help a lot to facilitate this process. Tough buttons (or lots of buttons), lacings, belts, and small head-holes can make dressing a frustrating experience. Go for clothes with large head-holes, zippers, and easy (and few) buttons.

School Supplies

Moving on to school supplies – like the clothes, it’s a good idea to check with your school list – you can access that list online usually or even find the specific grade list at your local stores.  I know that some teachers specify brands, colors, and so forth, so making sure you have the exact teacher/grade list is important.

Here are some other tips for shopping for school supplies with your grade school child.

  • Go generic on writing items like pens and pencils. Getting fancy, unique writing implements only leads to competition in the classroom and the possibility that your child’s fancy pens will get stolen. Unless the teacher requires otherwise, go with standard #2 pencils.  I love simple!
  • Markers should be water-based, and crayons are usually needed in packs of 16. Consider a box to store and carry these small, easily-lost items.
  • Erasers are always needed in grade school. A large, pink eraser like you had in school is a good purchase. Some erasers that fit on the ends of pencils are inexpensive additions, too.
  • Your child’s school may not supply paper like they did in the old days, (I don’t even remember going and buying many school supplies when I was a kid – maybe I am really dating myself!)  Find out from your teacher/school if you need to supply ruled (lined) paper, which will differ from teacher to teacher and grade to grade.
  • Notebooks come in many forms. Your grade school child will probably need some spiral-bound ones as well as some binders. Think slim and trim so the notebooks fit in your child’s desk, no matter what type is required.
  • You also might want to purchase some dividers or pocket folders to help your child stay organized. In addition, the printable Student Planner, that can be found in the Back 2 School Survival Guide can be placed in your child’s notebook.  Having one main place to keep track of daily homework assignments will help your child keep track of due items, but also keep things in one spot ready to turn in.

Let’s get organized for school so you can keep enjoying what’s left of summer!

Six Phone Apps That Make My Life Easier

iPhone-Apps-Life-Easier

I thought it would be fun to share what APPS I have on my phone and why.  Normally I am a pretty minimalist kinda gal, so I am not into all the latest and greatest, especially when it comes to APPS.  But there are a few that I find help and can save you time, your sanity and make things just a bit nicer too!

YouVersion Bible APP

I have shared this one several times before, but I always have new moms stumble into my community so could not pass this one by.  YouVersion is a FREE Bible on your phone, iPad or Tablet, but honestly – it is way more than that!

You can access an entire bible in many different formats just with the touch of a finger, but you also have access to hundreds of devotionals, videos and more.  This is what I currently have for my morning quiet time. I am able to do several different devotions and it keeps track of my reading, making it very easy!

The Bible APP for Kids

This is a creative Bible story APP that is perfect for kids age 6-8, although my four year old loves it.  There are stories from the Bible read and activities they can do along the way.   There are stars to collect through the reading and this makes kids eager to keep reading.

Letter School

This is one for the kids!  Voted the best Younger Children’s APP 2013 – KAPI Award, you will see why.  It is a great handwriting APP for both numbers and letters right on your phone or iPad.  Perfect for little fingers to get the idea of how to maneuver their fingers to make letters and also fun in the process.

It is great for using while waiting for an appointment or driving in the car.  I am not a huge screen user in the car, but it does come in handy for sure – plus they are learning something useful with letters and numbers.  That I like!

Period Tracker LITE

I admit, I am not the best at keeping track of my monthly cycle.  I know, probably lame.  But this APP I’ve been using for over a year has made it so much easier to keep track of where I am in my cycle, helps me understand any moodiness which may come on (which honestly has been really diminished with the use of Young Living’s Progessence Plus Serum) as well as quickly being able to see when my period is due to arrive, especially if I am traveling out of town.  They also have a version for $1.99 which has a few more options, but the free version is great for me.

EveryDay Spirit

My newest APP purchase and so worth $1.99!  Every Day Spirit is a collection of 180 beautiful, hand-crafted iPhone wallpapers designed to be a daily reminder of goodness, joy and light.  I love being able to change the face of my phone with a scripture or other inspirational quote.

You can choose from Kindness, Gratitude, Joy, Faith, Love, Prayers, Peace and more.   Funny enough, the shot from their site is exactly the first one I chose for my phone!   It’s $1.99, but in my opinion, well worth the Joy it will put in my day when I glance at my phone sixteen trillion times!

Pro HDR

I learned about this APP from my friend Myra {My Blessed Life}  while we were in Hawaii together.  She kept taking stunning sunset photos and when I asked her how, she spilled the beans!  She was using this APP.  I am not a blogger who does a lot of photography, but lately it has come in handy to have an APP that really takes great photos – food, family, outdoor shots, sunsets, beach scenes and more.

I love it and so does my hubby who also downloaded it.  If you are looking for an APP to help you take higher quality photos, this is the one!

Now go download Pro HDR and take some fabulous summer photos!!
