Two of my latest food obsessions are puff pastries and Nutella. Ever since I conquered my fear of frozen puff pastry dough a few months ago, my puff pastry usage while baking has been a little out of control. I’ve had so much fun creating and experimenting with so many appetizers and desserts. Even though I used to be terrified of baking with it, I now make sure that I always have at least two boxes of frozen puff pastry in my freezer just in case I need to make a quick savory or sweet dish. I have a confession to make: Having never worked with puff pastry dough in the past, I was at the store about a month ago and decided to buy a couple boxes of frozen puff pastry dough…and there they sat in my freezer. They sat…and sat…and sat…until a few days ago when I gathered up enough courage to remove a box from my freezer and allow the dough to defrost. Then I took a couple of deep breaths. What can I say? Last week my boys ran inside and said, “Mom, mom…it’s so hot outside! Can we see if it’s hot enough to cook an egg on the sidewalk?” The practical side of me started to say no, but then I caught myself. What would it hurt for them to try it? Why couldn’t I say yes? Is it “wasting” an egg, or simply using it for a different, but just as valuable, purpose?

After that quick argument in my head, I finally said, “Sure. If you want to try it, go ahead! Just make sure you wash off the sidewalk when you’re done.” They got an egg from the refrigerator and ran out of the house to try their science experiment.

Peanut Butter and White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Blondies – Jen Tilley

I recently discovered that blondies are my absolute favorite treat. They are chewy and flavorful with wonderful undertones of molasses due to the brown sugar. What I also realized is that they are one of the best treats to serve in my house. My husband is quite the chocoholic and I am…well, let’s just say the Cookie Monster and I could become the best of friends. Since blondies are basically massive cookies in brownie form, I figure baking them is an easy way to help satisfy both of our cravings. What’s not to love about that? [Read more…]
