Evaluating Your Priorities

Welcome to Day 4 of 31 Days of Mom Mojo – Tackling Time Management.

A few years back I took a survey among the community of moms who gather here at The Confident Mom and they told me their number one struggle was “improving my time management and running my home more smoothly.” This was chosen over finding time for self-care, the need to create routines, ending the morning madness and getting my kids to listen the first time. I was a little shocked. I would have thought the trouble with kids listening would have come out on top, but it didn’t.

If we are going to cover time management, we have to talk about priorities. In order to manage your time well, you have to know your priorities – because even small choices we make as homemakers can impact so many areas.

If you aren’t clear on your priorities as a wife, mother and individual it is likely that you will become frustrated, overwhelmed and feel like your daily schedule/life is controlling you rather than you controlling your day.  We’ve talked a bit about this the past few days, with Day 1 (Igniting Your Mom Mojo) Day 2 (Stop Complaining and Take Back Control) and Day 3 (What Does Time Mean To You).  Unless you set and resolve to live by your own priorities and not someone else’s expectations, you’ll end up wearing yourself out. Welcome to Day 2 of 31 Days of Mom Mojo – Tackling Time Management.

1.  Is there anything I can do about this situation or is it out of my control?

2.  What do I want instead – what is my preferred situation? [Read more…]

Tackling this daily task in the Weekly Household Planner:

Sweep Front Porch

So this post is actually going to go a little farther than just sweeping the front porch!  Hopefully it will also inspire you to put a few personal touches on your front entryway to welcome in Fall!  I shared what I did  a couple years ago and it certainly shouts – NO MARTHA STEWART lives here!  So don’t feel bad if you aren’t creating a big masterpiece.  It honestly is the thought that counts and even though my family may not mention it, I know they appreciate it.  (I’ve overheard my kids’ friends say they wished their mom would decorate like ‘that’ – so it does matter!)

There are a ton of great DIY ideas for decorating – I love looking at all the ideas, but have to admit I am not very good at actually doing any of them!  But perhaps this year will be different.  I really need to dig into my creative side to bring out a little “UMPH” into my spirit.  Maybe you feel the same way? Tackling tasks in the Weekly Household Planner:

Inexpensive Homemade Cleaning Products

There is more than one way to clean a surface. You can use commercial products on the market or make some of your own.  I know I have a few favorites that I’ve been using for quite some time and just love, but lately I’ve been trying to find ways to cut more store bought items from my budget.

I’ve made home-made laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent in the past, but  it seems those are short lived projects.  I make a batch then get caught up in the busy-ness of everyday and go back to store bought.  But I think I have a few ideas to help you create your own line of cleaning products without all the trouble!

There has to be something wrong when you have to wear a mask to clean your bathroom. One of my kids was always complaining about the smell of cleaners and you know – he was right!  He was just not talking about the smell of the bathroom – which can certainly be BAD with three boys sharing it!
