My Motherhood resolutions 2016

I would not say I am all about making outrageous New Year’s resolutions, but I do take time to evaluate my previous year.  Reviewing and making some intentional changes are where new habits are created and you break free from habits which do not serve you well.

Do you have a list of things you are intentionally working on in 2016?  Here is my list and a few tips on why I chose them and how I will implement them.

Have an Effective Morning Routine

I have shared the importance of a morning routine many times over the years….and I will just say “DO IT”.  Over the past few months I have neglected my routine and began getting up later and later.  I did not have the time or space to set my attitude for the day and get my much needed quiet time.  Today was the first day back and it felt really good!

Giving Myself Grace

As a recovering perfectionist, I am the worst at giving myself the grace I so desperately need.  Why do we treat ourselves the worst at times when things don’t go as planned or we make a mistake?  This is an area I am working on.  This book has been enlightening for me “The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are” by Brene Brown.

Be Silly More Often

I am pretty darn serious, and when you have a six year old in the house, you have to let things go sometimes.  I struggle with trivial games, silly songs and non-sense activities – but I know they are what kids love.  I need to be more like a kid sometimes and let lose!

Schedule Time for Me

Big FAIL in this area.  I am a big one for self-care and being an introvert makes it especially important for me to get time alone, and I have done a terrible job at scheduling this in so it actually happens.  As we know, if we do not schedule things into our calendar, the time will not just magically appear.  And if we look to others to fulfill that need – meaning a magic fairy will just come and take care of it all and arrange childcare to allow you time away, it will not happen.  I must put it in my calendar and take care of finding childcare so I can get refreshment.

Get Off Facebook

OUCH, yes …. I did say that.  As a blogger who thrives on community as well as a business owner who helps empower others with supporting their Wellness, social media is a two edge sword.  It is a fabulous tool for interaction with others, when you guard you time.  I have done a poor job with that and have recently set up some boundaries for myself on when I can access Facebook and when it will be off-limits.

Enjoy a Hobby

This goes along with scheduling time for me, but in a different way.  I have some ideas on activities I would love to do and they have fallen by the wayside because I do not allow time for them.  As a Work At Home Mom, it can be very easy to work way more hours than needed because their is no schedule, unless you make one.  I would love to get back into my running routine and train for a race or learn to snowshoe this winter.  I have a desire to read more and enjoy some activities that are new to me.

Invest in Community

I am doing good in this area, but need to keep it on the top of my list.  Having others to walk alongside you in life is critically important.  This fall my husband and I started a life team in our home, meeting weekly.  This was a step in obedience and it has been a wonderful blessing to making new friends and connecting in new ways.  I was intentional in attending a new bible study at my church as well, which has been a huge blessing too.  As moms, and women in general – I do feel we do better in our life when we are in community with others.

The Bible in 90 Days

I have never read the bible cover to cover……… there I said it!   A little embarrassing for me.  This has been something that has been on my list of things I want to accomplish, but it has not happened.  I fail every time I try.

Why is it that something else always seems more important?

Is this the same for you?

I stumbled upon this website last year about this time, Mom’s Toolbox where this great encourager, Amy leads a group of ladies through the bible in 90 days.  I signed up last year, got the encouragement, even attended a few twitter gatherings to hear how everyone else was doing, but about 1/3 of the way through, I missed a few days….then it was a few more….and then I couldn’t catch up.  I felt defeated.
