I was going to get up this morning and write a post on parenting – sharing advice and suggestions on something like ‘disrespect’ or ‘sibling rivalry’. After taking my quiet time this morning and starting breakfast with little “J” I turned on the radio and heard.
Earthquake and Tsunami hits Japan
I quickly turned on the TV and began watching, the images of the water over taking everything in its path. My stomach began to turn and my heart began to ache.
All these people, their lives gone.
So many homes – flattened and carried miles away.
Frantic family members looking for each other.
My post on parenting doesn’t seem so critical now.
What my heart is wanting to share today is for all of us to take time TODAY, slow down and truly enjoy the moment.
Don’t get caught up in the busy today.
Stop and read a few books to your little one. Have ice cream sundaes for lunch – just because you can. Play Candyland 5 times and even again when your 4 year old begs you.
Put aside the laundry, who cares that you cannot see your carpet through the dog hair on the floor, don’t worry that the kitchen floor is sticky – it will still be sticky tomorrow.
All those things will be there tomorrow – but today is what you have and sharing it with your family is what I ask you to consider. Hug your kids extra tight and give your hubby a few more smooches.
Instead of writing more articles today or cleaning the bathroom, I will be playing hooky from most of my duties as a family manager and just be MOM today.
One activity on the agenda – blowing bubbles for the first time with 15 month old little “J”. I know it will be more memorable than cleaning the toilet.
What can you set aside today to just be MOM?
