Welcome to the 30 Days of Summer – Go-To Guide for Moms!
Day Thirteen
One of the best gift ideas for dad on Father’s Day is to give him the day off to have fun and relax. {I know that mom’s everywhere would love to get a day off to have fun and relax – right?}
Combining relaxation and fun with being together is one way to cover all the bases. How about a few ideas to toss around to come up with some activities you all can enjoy this coming Sunday?
Golf
Is dad a golfer? Terrific! Why not take him to the golf range, with the entire family, and spend the day! As a surprise, you can present him with a driver! Think how excited he will be to be able to a couple hours to hit balls at the range. Make sure you bring a camera along to get some great action shots to view later. An even better idea is to catch some video of the whole gang swinging at some balls.
Baseball
How about baseball? Is dad a baseball lover? There are several ways to incorporate the love of baseball into Father’s Day activities. You can go to a batting cage with the family – expending energy and getting some great exercise. Or how about grabbing a ball game in person? Going to a major league game can be a bit expensive for those frugal minded families, but often there are AAA or AA teams nearby where you can catch a game for a fraction of the ‘major’ league price tag. We can easily take our family to our local team for under $50 – that’s a family of 6. You can always find deals of tickets and often they are meal deals, where snacks are included. Make sure you take some sunscreen and a hat!
Picnic
If the weather is expected to be good, why not take dad to the park and have a family picnic. Prepare everything the night before and head out so you can enjoy the day. Bring along frisbees, baseball bats, balls, and other yard games to play while hanging out enjoying the weather. How about throwing in a deck of cards to play sitting around on a blanket or some books to read? Think of those things dad enjoys and fit them into your plans for the day.
Fishing
Our three year old has been asking and asking to go fishing. My husband enjoys fishing, but unfortunately we’ve had other family obligations of late that have taken priority over going fishing. Does dad enjoy fishing? Help coordinate an early morning fishing escape for a few in your family. Pack a small breakfast for the group to take along and make a thermos of coffee for dad. Send them off to have some great dad bonding time around the lake. Who knows, you might have some fresh fish to cook up for dinner!
Good Old BBQ
Hardly anything more says Father’s Day than a Barbecue! This is one of our favorite past-times for Father’s Day. Last year I made some really yummy Maple Bacon Cupcakes for dessert, they were a hit. This year I plan to use the free Father’s Day meal plan that I get with my Emeals subscription. Looks rather tasty – Flank Steak with Parsley-Garlic Sauce, Grilled Corn and more – plus a great yummy dessert. All planned for you with recipes. I love that I can take that off my weekly to-do list! Who do you know that you could invite over for dinner? I am sure there is someone in your neighborhood who might not have others to enjoy Father’s Day with – why not brighten their day by being a blessing?
No matter what activity you come up with, you can be sure dad will be more than delighted with the effort taken to celebrate his day.
Do you have a Father’s Day tradition?
