Weekly Household Quick Tip

Helping you tackling this task in the Weekly Household Planner:

Dust all upper floor blinds

Hopefully last week you managed to get the main floor blinds dusted.  This task seems to be one that is easily forgotten until the blinds are so thick with dust that it makes it a much more tedious task.  That is how it used to be at my house.  But once I began dusting on a regular basis it all got easier.

You have a few choices on how you can do the dusting – so pick your device!

Vacuum

You can vacuum blinds with a brush attachment, swiping the attachment across the slats, not up and down.  This obviously creates less dust floating around with the hopes that your vacuum will suck a good portion of it up.

Duster

You can use a duster working across the slats.  My personal favorite is this OXO microfiber duster – you can wash it, which is fabulous, plus it is only $11.76 on Amazon!  I use this little guy for a lot of dusting and it is great for kids.  It is almost like a game when they are dusting!

Sponge

Try using a slightly damp sponge to wipe across each slat.  This is more time consuming, but if you haven’t dusted in awhile and have a lot of grime – this will be the way to go.  You can also use an old sock, just slip it on your hand and you can easily grab the slat between your fingers.

When you get into the habit of regularly cleaning your blinds it gets much easier.  Now I can delegate the task to someone else in the house because it is not a seemingly endless task.  Your teenager will be much more likely to put on their IPOD and take the duster and do the task knowing it will go quickly.  When we do our part keeping certain areas of the home up to par, it is more likely we can get others to contribute!

What is your method for cleaning blinds?
