Weekly Household Quick Tip

Tackling this task for Friday in the Weekly Household Planner:

Clean microwave – inside & out

If you have a busy household, chances are your microwave gets used a lot!  Which means it probably gets dirty with splatters of food, making it smell bad.  When you clean the inside on a regular basis, it is easier and tends to not get food build up caked on the inside.

I normally can just take a cotton rag and my kitchen disinfectant spray and clean the inside out because I’ve been cleaning it on a regular basis.  But if you happen to run into a problem with some stubborn and icky food or grime, this method might save you a lot of work!

  • Fill a microwave-safe glass or bowl half full of water. Add a tablespoon of white vinegar.
  • Place inside the microwave and turn on for 5 minutes. You may need less time in a high-powered microwave oven; keep an eye on it the first time you try this. This will steam up the walls of the microwave and loosen the dried-on gunk.  Warning: The vinegar-water solution will be very hot after heating. Handle with extreme care and not when small children are nearby.
  • Remove the glass container. Wipe down the inside of the microwave with a clean rag or paper towel.  The loose gunk should come off easily.

The last thing to do is take out the glass tray and wash in just like you would a dish, or run it through the dishwasher.

How do you fit exercise in each day?
