Summertime is coming to an end! Before we know it we will notice the leaves changing color, the weather will get colder and the nights will arrive sooner!
For most families the fall season is a very busy one. With the start of school and the many activities soon to come, our schedules get busy and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed!
The best thing you can do during this busy time is to prepare and plan! The more prepared you are the more in control you will feel. Living an organized lifestyle allows you to do both. Remember it’s not about perfection; it’s about the systems you put in place to make your life easier.
What is an Organizational System?
An Organizational System is the process you go through, the actions you take to stay organized. For example, your morning routine is an organizing system. You do the same set of actions everyday to make sure your kids have everything they need for school and to get there on time. This process takes planning and preparation. Once it’s in place it becomes routine and a habit!
Living and organized lifestyle is more than just organizing your things, but it’s also about taking control of our time and how we get things done.
Here are a few additional tips to keep you organized during this transition into fall:
- Hold a family meeting prior to school starting. Children will adjust better to their new schedules if they know what to expect. Set your expectations and be clear and concise.
- Know when to say NO! It’s easy to get overwhelmed when we say yes to everything. Know your priorities and stick to them. If you really don’t have the time, then don’t commit!
- Meal plan! At some point in the week, plan your menu for the following week, for my family this happens on Sunday. I look at the schedule and then plan the meals that make the most sense on certain days. There will be days where the crock-pot will make the most sense, and some days where take out is the most feasible. It’s ok; don’t beat yourself up if you are not able to cook a homemade meal every night. Life gets busy and you can only do the best you can!
- Review your calendar weekly! In order to feel in control of your time, you need to know what’s on the schedule. You can adjust what you need to and plan for what’s coming up. Just knowing what to expect is half of the battle!
Happy Organizing!
