I am no Martha Stewart and I certainly do not have the unlimited funds of Southern Living in order to decorate my home, but I still try! I love the change of the seasons, most especially the summer to fall transition when I can change things up and refresh my home. I have a ton of fall decorating items and love sprucing things up and creating a different feel in my home and for those who visit.
I thought I would share with you my simple way to spruce up an entryway. So please, make no mistake, decorating is not one of my “expertise” areas – but I think any attempt at creating a place for your family is worth a mention and perhaps my attempt will inspire you. I know it is something kids and husbands rarely even mention, but I can tell you – they see it.
Here is the before picture of my entryway. Over grown summer pots in need of care, a messy porch with flower petals – boy those pots are huge! I procrastinated digging them up, so there they sat looking ragged and worn. Kind of embarrassing to share this picture, but hey – we are being real and this is reality!
Here is my after picture (it is a little hard to see with the light) – newly planted pots with fall colors, notice they are looking a little empty compared to my other photo, but soon they will be full and vibrant. I also changed out my wreath, a basic leaf wreath bought at Michael’s a couple years ago in which I bought a few extra accent pieces and hot glue gunned them in place. The leaf swag I bought at Michel’s for $8 on coupon special about 10 years ago too – I enjoy the look it gives around the door, it is a little uneven on top, my hubby hung it for me, so I will have to “fix” that! I also love hanging a welcome sign right above the pots, so you can see that off to the right side. Nothing as dramatic as the post photo above, actually it almost looks pitiful – but I can guarantee it looks so much better in person!!! Never the less, my entryway has a somewhat inviting look and at least doesn’t look un kept!
What do you like to do for fall? Do you enjoy changing your décor with the seasons? Do you have simple and low cost ways to do that?
