Are you going to saw the sawdust today?

From Screamfree Parenting by Hal Runkel

” All the king’s horses and all the king’s men can’t put the past together again. So let’s remember. Don’t try to saw sawdust. ”      –    Dale Carnegie

Oh, how much easier and more pleasant would life be if we could live by this principle. Each day really is a new start both for you and your child. If you flipped out over something stupid yesterday, apologize and put it behind you. If your kid had a particularly trying day and managed to stomp on every last one of your nerves, allow your resentment to slide out of you as you slide under the covers.

There really is no sense rehashing the same issue over and over again. So, expect your kids to surprise you today. Look for the good in them and in yourself. After all, life may not be a fairy tale, but at least we can live happily in the here and now.

This is a  good one to remember and yes….even for me!  It is hard for us to just move on sometimes and not keep going back to the “woulda, shoulda, coulda” philosophy that ends up getting us no where.  Everyone has a better day when you can let go of yesterdays mistakes and look forward.  That is what I love so much when I am working with moms, helping them to see that we are looking toward the future – not trying to fix the past.  Would you like a different future for your family?  Remember to not “saw the sawdust”!!
