I’m Somewhere in Here

Finding-Balance-Heart-Issue

I just finished recording the interview with Glynnis for the “Getting Real – Conversations that Spark Change” Conference Call series that goes along with this study – so it is perfect that I am jumping into writing my posts for the next few days.

Ladies, she is so genuine and real, I loved the call and if you already purchased the series, you probably listened to her interview as it went up yesterday. If not, no worries, you will have access to the calls for as long as you need  {you can even listen again!!}  I love putting calls like this on my iPhone and listening to them while I run and also running errands in the car.  It is a way to get fed good stuff while doing the tasks that we need to do.

Leave a comment below with what you thought or what you gleaned from the call with Glynnis, then I can give her the link to the post, she was thrilled when I shared with her how much you all were enjoying her book  :-)

Chapter Four:

A few key sentences that got my attention:

“From experience, I can say that the more I try to control the world around me, the more out of balance life gets.  That’s because focusing more on the outside than the inside results in a house of cards.”

“If every inch of your home is in order and your schedule mastered, but your heart is empty, I would have done you a disservice with this book.”

“When every accomplishment was stripped away, what was left was an unhappy, self-centered woman who didn’t think God could make anything good out of a miserable situation.  Instead of seeing what I had, I focused on what I didn’t have.”

The big one for me:

“I had to reevaluate my priorities and my expectations for myself.  It was a time of brutal honesty, loneliness, and shattered pride.  But it was drenched in a message of hope and redemption.”

Glynnis talked about ‘To-Do Lists Will Never Satisfy’

Also, “Being versus doing – those three words redefined my understanding of what God wanted of me.”  That is where I feel I am at right now, smack dab in the middle of transition, refocusing and reprioritizing my life.  I no longer want to be the one dictating it all, I truly want to be listening for His nudging, His voice and being obedient.

I am a task-orientated person, as long as I remember I can serve my family with all the “things” I can do in my home, yet distance myself from being present and serving their hearts, I think I can make small changes.  I can get great satisfaction from a completed to-do list, but perhaps God isn’t satisfied with the way I accomplished all that was on the list, especially if I neglected sharing time or my heart with those I love.

It’s a constant battle and I know I am not perfect, but keeping this concept on my front radar is important.  For me to daily pray about it and have a desire to change my behavior is what God sees.  I know this, and Glynnis shared this too:

The Bible is clear that God places more value on my heart than my achievements  – Glynnis Whitwer
