Chapter Ten:
A few key sentences that got my attention:
“Most of the time, it’s not a lack of skill or expertise to organize that hinders me. It’s my emotional state. It’s easy to feel burdened by responsibilities, victimized by circumstances, and frustrated by interruptions.”
“Say a prayer, asking for direction. Then wait with expectation. God will answer you.”
“When I’m mentally overloaded, pausing to think and pray is the best use of time; in fact, it’s an art”
“If you don’t have the time to manage your paper, pay your bills, or reorganize your closet now, you never will. You won’t wake up one day with a management schedule!”
The big one for me:
“If life has taken a different turn that you expected, you can’t control that. But you still have the intelligence and creativity to adapt with graciousness.”
This chapter was a great follow up to the Getting Real – Conversations that Spark Change Conference Call that I just recorded with Nikki last night. She gave some great information on tackling clutter, as well as adjusting our schedules too. I loved how she talked about, “shifting they way we think about our home.” If you get a chance to listen to it today, I would do it!
As I’ve shared previously, I do feel a lot of trouble begins when we over schedule and do not allow margin and time of accomplishing the necessary things. I was really challenged by how Glynnis shared her process of dealing with mental overload – to just stop, pray and wait. I am such a task orientated person that to “waste” time like that is horrible to me. But I can see that it is probably exactly what I need to do in order to move forward effectively.
So I challenge those of us who are stuck and unmotivated to stop, pray and allow God to speak and give us direction. Ladies, we don’t always need the answers to everything and often times we need to be given ‘hints’ and that’s okay!
I loved the practical steps Glynnis had for taking us through the process of organizing a room. Her organizing notebook is a wonderful idea to get all those “cluttering ideas” out of our minds. Does this appeal to you? I think I might try an index card system…..with different rooms and my ideas for organizing and putting them on a card, then ripping the card up when I complete it – what a feeling of satisfaction that will be! I also love her tip:
Start with what will give you the most immediate gratification.
