Chapter Seven:
A few key sentences that got my attention:
“Unfortunately, when I settle for ‘good enough’ consistently, I learn to live with mediocrity. And accepting mediocrity is far from where God wants me to be. You see, finishing what we start is more than a good organizational or home management skill. It’s also a spiritual discipline.”
“There are times when needs or situations require the emotional energy or time we would normally distribute more evenly through the rest of our lives.”
The big one for me:
“I wonder how many truly brilliant, original, life-changing ideas have disappeared because their creators lacked follow-through.”
Situationally Disorganized
I loved this from Glynnis – you have most of the skills and smarts to bring organization to reality, we simply need to adapt to the current situation – or give ourselves grace to just ride it out! We can all relate, those incidents and events in our lives that throw us for a loop – you all have shared a few on the Facebook page, how things seemed all good, until _________ happened. Fill in the blank.
“It is better to live with a messy house than to regret missing any of life’s magnificent moments.” Glynnis
But, at some point we do have to get things back in order….or else things just slowly decline to a place of complete despair. Maybe that is you now. I love that the Lord is there to offer himself to us…..His comfort, wisdom and strength. Ladies, we don’t have to do it on our own! Allow His grace to cover you in the midst of the mess…….your own harsh self-judgement will not help in anyway at all…..it is rather debilitating, honestly.
I know many of you can say “yes” to many of the questions Glynnis asks in the Are You Situationally Disorganized list. It’s been that kind of season for you.
Chronic Disorganization
For some of us we lack certain skills or characteristics to overcome the disorganization alone. If you feel there are underlying issues that are preventing you from moving ahead then you may fit in this category.
If you have tried to change on your own and have failed many times, you might need to seek professional help to overcome unique challenges, such as ADHD, chronic illness, depression or perhaps other emotional or physical issues. Do not be ashamed, seek out the help you need in order to not stay stuck where you have been. I look forward to sharing with you the call next week in our series, Conversations that Spark Change with Nikki, a professional organizer who will have some great tips to move those who might be stuck in this spot.
Lack of Follow-Through
This one hit me and really resonated with me as an area where I find frustration with others. I have a tendency to always follow through with simple tasks, like her hanging up the robe. But sometimes when I am met with certain challenges I do not follow through. For example, I have a wreath project that I have had going on now for probably 3 months. I’ve completed part of it, but am now stuck with purchasing a few more supplies to complete it. So there it sits on tops of my TV cabinet in my living room, undone and cluttering up that area instead of being finished and hanging on a door.
