Simplify The Holidays! – Nikki Kinzer

Keep Christmas Simple and Meaningful!

Sounds so easy right!  This time of the year should be filled with peace, laughter, love, and memories to last forever!  It’s a time where we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and show gratitude to the ones we love!

Instead, we get caught up in overbooking our schedules, spending too much money and we are left feeling spent and stressed out!  This is not the way any of us would like to spend our holiday season!

How can we keep Christmas Simple and Meaningful?

Know your priorities – What is your vision when you think of the perfect Holiday Season?  What traditions mean most to you?   Is there anything you would like to skip this season, because you do not enjoy it or it brings on too much stress?

Knowing your priorities and living by your priorities are very different things!  You may know what is most important to you but that doesn’t necessarily mean you are living by those priorities!

Challenge yourself this year to have purpose in everything you do and by doing so you will keep the season simple and meaningful!

Review your calendar regularly- A part of living by your priorities is knowing when to say no!  A big stressor in the holiday season is just doing too much!  Set a limit of what you are able to do and stick to it!   Set aside a few days in the next month, which are just down days, where you have no commitments!

Review your calendar daily to yourself and with the family at least once a week.   Keeping your holidays simple and organized is staying in control of your calendar.  The best way to do this is to review it regularly!  Communicate with other family members what to expect for the week, knowledge and preparation are keys to keeping the holidays stress free!

Budget – A big stressor for many families is the cost of the holidays!  Buying gifts, groceries, decorations, all of the odds and ends, it can add up very fast!  Set a budget and stick to it.  Don’t go into debt at Christmas, you don’t need to add more stress and guilt later on.   Only do what you can truly afford to do!

Christmas is not about the biggest and best present or the brightest decorations.  Remember the true meaning of the holiday and think outside of the box for gifts from the heart.  For example, give the gift of time.  Offer babysitting services or yard work assistance.

You can keep the Holidays Simple and Meaningful, just by being aware and purposeful of what you choose to do during this time!

Live by your priorities and make beautiful memories to last forever!

Happy Organizing!
