Family Beach Trip

Welcome to the 30 Days of Summer – Go-To Guide for Moms!

Day Twenty Three

If you’ve been around here long, you know I love the beach.  The sound of the ocean is one that creates a heavenly comfort for me.  In fact, we are off to the beach here in less than two weeks to enjoy some much needed family time away.  I cannot wait!

Surely, your entire family will be heading to the beach this summer too. Bet you can’t wait either!  If it is just for the day or an extended stay there are always those must have items that make a family beach trip just a bit more enjoyable.

Here is what’s on my list:

Large beach bagLarge-beach-bag

I’ve used different beach bags over the years, but recently picked this one up and love it.  It is big enough for several towels, toys, books, magazines, lotion and more.  But the best part – it is made from mesh, so sand is easy to escape.

Sunscreen Lotion

This is a must – I was hoping to have my sunscreen post done before sharing this post, but I will be sure to link back to it when I get it done – it will be before the series end in June.  I have good info to share, but if you are still unsure of a good sunscreen for your family, check out this recent post on LifeYourWay.

Lip balm

With the wind and sun, your lips can take a beating.  I love my Young Living Grapefruit and Lavender lip balm, but I always need to make sure I’ve put sunscreen on my lips prior to the lip balm, as it does not provide sunscreen.  I just discovered Hurraw! Balm, Sun Protection Lip Balm SPF15, Tangerine Chamomile and will be trying this out for my sunscreen article.

Even better than sunscreen at the beach – a nice umbrella.  We recently purchased this large umbrella to use at the beach and it works great!  If you live in a rainy climate, like Seattle it is even better – keeping everyone dry – the whole crowd!  This type of umbrella is a must for someone like me who enjoys being outdoors, but cannot take the sun.  As I was doing some research I also saw this great chair and purchased one for myself.  Not everyone needs a chair at the beach, but I have a hard time sitting on the sand for long periods; this is low to the ground and has a personal shade covering.  Love that Aqua color too!  Got it with my Swagbucks gift cards!!

Extra Clothes

This goes for everyone!  I find that even if I think I won’t get wet or sandy, I do!  Bringing along extra shoes is a must as well.

Beach Towels

Bring at least one beach towel per person – it is better if you can have older kids create their own beach bag to carry their items.  Then you won’t be considered the pack mule!

Beach Blanket

One nice big beach blanket is great to have.  You can have it be your central meeting location and it will provide a great place to dry off, eat lunch and play games.

Beach Games/Toys

Frisbee, balls, kites, pails and shovels all need to come along.  If you have too many decide what is likely to get used and leave the rest at home.

Wet Wipes

Make sure you take along some wash cloths in plastic bags or wipes in containers.  You know that there will be sticky fingers sometime during your outing!

Sunglasses and hats

Don’t leave home without hats and sunglasses for the gang.  Start your little ones wearing sunglasses and as they get older they will be more likely to keep them on.

Cooler

You will want a cool place to store lunch, water and cold snacks.  This is also a great place to keep other items you don’t want to get too hot – like cameras and cell phones.  Just make sure you keep them in plastic disposable bags to keep moisture from getting to them.

Plastic Bags

Bring along extra bags to take wet clothing and swimsuits home in.

First Aid Kit

Bring along a simple first aid kit containing bandaids and antibacterial spray/lotion.  If your anything like my family, there are bound to be some accidents!

That’s my list! {oh and a good book!}
