Humility in parenting? Really…….

From Screamfree Parenting    by Hal Runkel, LMFT

Quote of the Day: ” The highest reward for man’s toil is not what he gets from it, but what he becomes by it. “

— John Ruskin (1819-1900)

Being ScreamFree on a daily basis is not an easy thing to do. It takes humility, hard work, and a willingness to learn tough lessons about yourself. It is a way of life that is different from what most people know and it takes a continual effort. Why do all of this? Two reasons: your kids and you.

More often than not, being ScreamFree with your kids will have a calming effect on them. But that’s not really the point. In practicing self control and self care day by day, you are building muscle – emotional muscle that will benefit you and everyone around you far after your kids have flown the coop.

This is a great tid-bit of information!  Changing ANY kind of parenting behavior is hard, but most importantly when you are having ton concentrate only on YOURSELF – yikes – that is hard and you have no one else to blame but yourself.  That is the wonderful idea behind Screamfree parenting, you can only control yourself, no one else.  By being responsible for yourself you can then draw from within, rather than look at other’s to calm you down.  Look for more as I dig deeper here!  If you haven’t checked out the book, you had better reserve on at the library!  Screamfree parenting
