Praying Over Your Childrens Education

It’s a difficult world for our children to navigate these days. It’s easy to be worried when they leave the safety of your home to go to school.

What are they being taught?

Who have they chosen as friends?

Is their time at school bringing them closer to God or further from Him?

There’s a lot to consider (a.k.a. stress over!).

Whether you homeschool your children or send them to a private or public school, one thing I’m sure of is this: we, as parents, have all been called to pray for our children, and that includes their education.

What to pray for your children’s education

I admit, I have not been a very active prayer warrior for my children, but it doesn’t mean that I should just give up, right? We are all works in progress and I know that praying and asking for guidance is what I need to do. As I’ve been examining my prayer life, I can see some great steps to take to begin praying for my children’s education—not just my younger ones, but the older ones in college too!

Pray for their teachers

Pray for guidance on how to communicate with and bless their teachers. Pray that your children’s teachers would see them the way God sees them.

Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. —Matthew 9:38

Pray for their peers

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17

Pray for their administrators and school board

But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens. —Exodus 18:21

Pray that they would make good choices in the face of peer pressure

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being. —Ephesians 3:16

Being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience. —Colossians 1:11

Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. —Matthew 26:41

Pray that they would be a good friend and kind to all

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. —Galatians 6:10

Pray for their focus and that they’d be hard workers

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Colossians 3:23

Pray for God’s favor and blessing for their school

For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. —Isaiah 44:3

I will make them and the places surrounding my hill a blessing. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing. —Ezekiel 34:26

Pray for everyone’s health and safety

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. —Proverbs 3:7-8

I am planning to pick one or two of these scriptures to pray daily and then rotate back through. Simple, intentional words to cover my children. This I can do!
