Quick Beauty Tips For Busy Moms

Welcome to Day 28 of 31 Days of Mom Mojo – Tackling Time Management.

A woman whose smile is open and whose expression is glad has a kind of beauty no matter what she wears.    Anne Roiphe

It seems like kids take up all of your time, leaving you with very little in the way of time or energy for fixing yourself up and making sure you look your best. Don’t feel guilty, it happens to all moms.

We are so busy with taking care of and running after our children that somehow, the fancy stuff goes out the window and we opt for a ponytail or short hair cut and some lip balm (and that’s on a good day).

You can still look your best every day simply by using a few quick tried and true beauty tips.  No more schlepping around with uncombed hair and nails that look like a cavewoman’s!

You have to allow yourself a bit of time in the morning to have a few minutes to care for your needs.  If you are rushing around and neglect your appearance, it will be evident.  I know when I run out of the house feeling a bit unkempt I am dreading the chance I may run into someone I know!

If your hair is long, ponytails are a very quick and easy answer.   Take a minute to brush it into a slick ponytail, rather than one with stray hair falling out.

Headbands also look great in long hair and help keep it out of your face. There are a ton of cute hair clips, ponytail wraps and headbands in the stores.  If you’ve cut your hair short, or it was already short, don’t neglect it.

Short styles sometimes require more attention than long hair. Have your stylist give you a cut that is easy to take care of, but that still is cute and stylish, and have him/her show you what products you will need and how to use them. If you are in a big hurry, headbands and cute barrettes can be a lifesaver for short hair, too – as well as a hat!

Makeup takes time, so cut back, but don’t cut it out. For quick and easy makeup routine, wash your face and smooth on tinted moisturizer. Follow with a fluff of blush, a dab of tinted lip balm or gloss and a twist of mascara.

One simple way to present a clean and kept look is to keep your nails short and with simple clear polish.  I have never been one for anything but my natural nails, which means I need to take care to keep them trimmed and polished.  This takes just a few minutes each week, I can file and trim them while watching a TV show and then brush a quick coat of clear or nude polish on.  I love Coney Island Cotton Candy by OPI.

Remember before you had kids, when your clothes were coordinated? They still can be, but you might not have tons of time to try on ten different outfits every morning. Depending upon whether you are working at home or working out of the home, your clothing needs will vary, but you feel better either way when you look put together.

Plan your daily wardrobe for simplicity, and so you can mix and match a lot of pieces. Even if you wear jeans every day, don’t automatically throw on an old T shirt and your flip-flops.

Try wearing simple long or short-sleeved t-shirts or sweaters, maybe in solid colors that you can highlight with a cute pair of earrings or a bracelet of colored beads. I love my collection of long and short sleeve t-shirts from The Gap in different colors.  Matched with jeans, khaki pants or simple jean skirt help me look put together very easily.

If you work outside of the home, the same basic idea works. Wear pieces that all coordinate so that you can put on a skirt or pants and a shirt, add a cute scarf or necklace and go.

No matter what comes your way during the day – you always look better with a smile on your face!  Give your pearly whites a great brushing and brighten your day as well as someone else’s by showing them off!

Our appearance plays into our self-esteem, so if you are not feeling good about the way you look, your confidence will be lower and you won’t be showing your best self.

The five elements to looking your very best, even when you’re in a hurry and juggling your mommy duties is to pay attention to your hair, makeup, nails and clothes. This doesn’t have to require lots of time, just a bit of forethought and planning. Then you’ll be on your way to being a “put-together” mom instead of a dishelved mom.
