Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Essential Oils

I have a fun post today to share with you all – involving food, essential oils!

In anticipation of Cinco de Mayo in a little over a week, I thought it would be fun to share some recipes that you can make using Young Living Lime Vitality essential oil – we tried them out last night and they were ‘the BOMB‘!!!

We made an awesome Cinco de Mayo Easy Blender Salsa  {I’m sharing the recipe with you all here!} and Mexican Grilled Lemon-n-Lime Chicken – on the barbecue.  So good!

You can find the recipe for the fabulous salsa recipe below –  it was super easy and really good.

Cinco De Mayo Easy Blender Salsa

½ sweet onion

½ red onion

2 Serrano peppers

1 jalapeño – quartered

3 cloves minced garlic

43 large red tomatoes (quartered)

2 Roma tomatoes (halved)

5 tomatillos

1 green bell pepper (quartered)

1 bunch of cilantro (coarsely chopped)

1 T chopped garlic

2 drops Young Living Lime Essential Oil

Add all ingredients to your blender. Puree ingredients until smooth. Leave the lid on your blender 5 minutes after blending. Pour and serve with your favorite tortilla chips.

Look at this Mexican Grilled Lemon-n-Lime Chicken – it was so moist and delicious – and I will share with you how you can get that recipe too – and 7 others!

Doesn’t that make your mouth water?

Mexican Grilled Lemon-n-Lime Chicken

8 drops Young Living Lime Essential Oil

7 drops Young Living Lemon Essential Oil

1 pound chicken drumsticks

1 tablespoon salt

2 cups water

Combine the salt and water with 8 drops of Young Living Lime Essential Oil and 7 drops of Young Living Lemon essential oil. Mix thoroughly. Place the chicken in the brining mixture 12-24 hours before grilling. Grill over low heat for 35-45 minutes, turning frequently. Serve with your favorite sides.

So both of these recipes have a common theme – they use Lime Vitality Essential Oil in the recipe.   Say what?  Yep, did you know you can cook using essential oils and it can be amazing?  Both of these recipes use Lime Vitality essential oil and it is great.

Today is the day – time to get yourself a Premium Starter Kit and begin your essential oil journey.

I provide support, resources and monthly online classes to help you in your journey.  We have a private Facebook page too and I am available to walk alongside you as you help your family achieve wellness.  You won’t regret it!

5 Factors Affecting Your Daily Attitude in Motherhood

Motherhood is a tough job – no doubt about it.  We can all have bad days….even a few bad days all in a row.  When mom has a bad attitude it is fought for everyone in the family, but in particular your children.

I have found that when I start to see a shift in my attitude that it really is important me to take a look at a few key areas to examine if there are things lacking  It is my responsibility, not only to myself but to my spouse and children to be caring for what my body needs so that my spirit can be in a right place.

I like peace in my home….I crave that type of environment and I know it is best for my family.  When my attitude starts to crumble I consider the following:

Sleep Habits

I know this is a key component for all of us – we need good sleep and lots of it.  Quality and Quantity are both important.  We cannot expect our bodies to run and function properly on 4-5 hours of sleep a night.  The best recipe for a good night sleep is:

  • go to bed at the same time each night, or as close to the same time as possible
  • have a bedtime routine in place, which may include having a relaxing bath, drinking a cup of tea or using essential oils to help the body relax and wind down.
  • try to get up near the same time each morning, your body will get acclimated to that pattern and it will set itself up for a pattern of sleep that will be restful and regenerating, which is what our bodies need.
  • have a nice quiet room that is comfortable – take care to nourish your space where you spend time allowing your body to refresh itself.

Your Power Source

We all know this one, but it is often the last thing we think about during our day to make sure it happens.  Spending 5-15 minutes with The Lord is critical to the success of your day, your attitude and allowing Him to direct your path during the day.  I can tell the days that I end up sleeping later than I know I should and then do not get my time alone with Him.

By reading scripture, jotting down a few lines in my journal and praying, I can completely change my entire day – so why do we often disregard this time?  Connecting with the only ONE who can truly change your day from the inside out is important….so why not treat it that way and make it a priority?

Taking the time to fill your energy tank up with what actually nourishes you is important.  It cannot be left at the bottom of the list.  I have been doing this the past few days, and I have been experiencing the depleted feelings and lack of energy that I normally have otherwise, when I take time to care for my self.

I am an introvert, and when I don’t take the time to get quiet time alone, or go for a run, get outside for a walk or even have some time set aside to do errands all alone, I suffer.  Which then in turn means my family suffers.  There are things that we can do as moms that will nourish our spirit, if we do not focus on making that happen, it is unlikely that time will magically appear to do it for us.

When all of the above things get neglected one area that grows rapidly for us is our stress level.  I can typically now recognize when my stress level is beginning to increase and I have found natural ways to combat it, but there are times when even that doesn’t tip the scale in my favor because I have allowed too much on my plate or had bigger expectations of myself that were not realistic.

Unchecked stress affects your family in ways that are very damaging.  I shared some ideas on how to protect yourself from allowing stress to take over your life, do any of these ideas resonate with you on how you can reduce stress in your day?

You are what you eat – we all know that.  It is especially true as we get older and our bodies begin to change and need more nutrients and better care.  I have taken huge strides in caring for my body in more natural and effective ways, especially with having a chronic disease like Lupus as well as depression.  I know that when I do not eat well, when I consume too much caffeine or sugar that my body will react negatively.

I want to operate on full power – not mediocre power.  When I do not take the time to fill my body with what it needs to operate, it back fires on me.  One of the best things I ever did for myself was to begin a gluten free diet. It changed my life.  I have know went a step further and try to eat Paleo, because I can tell a difference in how I feel – both physically and mentally.

Are you doing your body good with what you are putting in it?

Remember to give yourself grace too…….you deserve it!  We are not perfect beings and when we can remember that we will serve our family better.

The Cure for Judgment = Grace

This quote literally struck me right between the eyes:

“Judging is the brick, and pride is the mortar holding the judging attitudes in place.”

As I read the chapter, I realized that even though I didn’t see myself as a prideful person, that in fact…… Pride is an issue for me.  I can easily come to conclusions without even considering anyone’s unique situation, somewhat like the story of Emily.  I can see myself being guilty of the same exact stance she took when seeing the mother sitting inside her car.

I have grown in this area as my years increase, meaning….I have learned to give grace more often when looking at others, but I still have a long way to go.

What I struggle with most

It is hard for me to be authentic here, as I am sure I will take some of you by surprise, but I have to be genuine and tell it like it is.  I pray my offering of my own faults and weaknesses will somehow be used by God to help another mom along in her journey.  That is what I pray.   Because honestly, it is embarrassing and even a bit disgusting to have to share some of these areas with you all, and admit it.

I impose my “perfect” expectations on others – all the time.  Just like Jill suggests, I can mark all the boxes – my kids, my husband, my friends (not quite to the degree that I do close family) and sometimes even complete strangers.  I can pick someone apart without even consciously realizing it – that is the shameful part.

“Judging is ugly.  It demands.  It criticizes.  It divides.  It destroys. It blinds us to our own faults.  Judging imposes our opinions on other people.  It leaves little room for others to be different from us because it sees those differences as wrong.”

Why do we – or more importantly – why do I,  jump to judgment instead of giving one grace.   As I do a self-examination of myself and my normal mode of operation, I honestly do not feel I come from a natural place of offering grace to those around me.  I judge and inflict a sense of perfection.  I am always wanting to help solve a problem, rather than let someone else come to a conclusion on their own, or even maybe not solving the problem all together, just allowing it to be.

It is all about Grace

I have ben convicted in this week’s chapter.  Severely!  My heart was hurt a bit and then I was encouraged with this quote:

“Conviction is a good thing because it holds us accountable and motivates us to change.”

I love that, motivates us to change!  You know, God nudges us – all too well.  He knows our hearts and knows what we can handle – how to “give us His opinion” and how to continue to mold us into who He wants us to be.  I may be an older mom, but I am certainly not done growing, learning and changing.

My assignment is to offer Grace more -everyday.  Even to myself, which as a perfectionist is very hard to do.  I’ve struggled with emotional issues all my life that stem from many things, but have a lot to do with this ugly perfectionist portion of my nature.  Thank goodness God has led me along the way to a solution where I can continue to push forward past the depression that use to suffocate me.  He is so good and He is always near.

“In human relationships, grace is allowing others to be human, to make mistakes and not get criticized for every little thing they do wrong or differently form the way we do it.”

I will keep this quote handy as I go through my days, caring for my home and cleaning up yet one more BIG mess from someone who didn’t take my suggestion and listen to me  {You know, because I do know everything – yeah, right!}

Jill makes a statement about starting with ourselves on offering Grace, and I couldn’t agree more.  I am not sure what that looks like for you, but we all need to give ourselves Grace.  I need to work on my expectations with myself, the mom guilt I often carry for days and also watch my words – those are key areas for me.

What area is being brought to your attention to change?

Can you take a minute and pray this prayer with me:

God, we know that we’re not perfect, but we do want to allow you to perfect us and make us more like you.  Show us what antidotes need to be applied to eradicate the Perfection Infection from our lives.  Thank you for leading and guiding us.  Thank you for the Bible that shows us the way.  Help us to re-engage with our family with grace for their imperfections.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.

A Day in the Life of an Oily Mom

A Day in the Life of an Oily Mom

Hello to all of you who are visiting for the “Day in the Life of an Oiler” series which began yesterday over at My Blessed Life! We left off yesterday with Denise sharing at Wholesome Mommy. So I am here to start off the rounds for today!

A Day in the Life of an Oiler Blogger Series

I am thrilled to take you through a “typical” day in my life and share how I use Young Living Essential Oils in our home every single day.

Since I began a year ago to incorporate essential oils in our home, we have had some incredible results. I’ve been able to support my moods, support our immune system, calm our house down of those tiring toddler outbursts and emotions, and so much more.

Grab yourself a cup of tea (or coffee in my case, with a dash of raw cream) and sit back and enjoy walking through a day in my life. Please, remember though – I have used oils for a year. If you are new to using essential oils or have not even started, please do not get overwhelmed with my routine or what I use. This is a learning process and also one that is personal to everyone’s budget. You cannot get all the oils you would ever want or need all at once, so make a wishlist and keep adding to your collection a little bit at a time!

Warning: I am authentic and real. You will see me without a shower in the videos and honestly just being “off-the-cuff”, so forgive my bedhead and my bathrobe!

Morning Routine

I begin my morning early. I am up at 5:30am and go out and chug down a huge glass of water, as well as a vegetable capsule that is filled with 5 drops of Lemon Vitality Essential Oil. I may take another capsule in the afternoon, or have a cup of tea and add a few drops of Lemon Vitality in that (which is really yummy)!

This helps kickstart my digestive system. Lemon is a natural energizer, uplifting, and a powerful antioxidant. I feel revitalized and refreshed. That is how I want to start my day. I am off to have my devotional time and get myself set for the day.

When my family begins to get up, we start our breakfast routine, which includes NingXia Red, Mineral Essence and Super B for me.

NingXia Red® is a powerful antioxidant drink that contains whole Ningxia wolfberry puree – a super blend of blueberry, aronia, cherry, pomegranate, and plum juices, natural stevia extract, grape seed extract, pure vanilla extract, and Orange, Yuzu, Lemon, and Tangerine essential oils. Its health benefits include support from head to toe, via a whole body nutrient infusion.

Mineral Essence™ is a balanced, full-spectrum ionic mineral complex enhanced with essential oils. Since I have been using this to help replenish my magnesium I have slept better, had more energy, and felt refreshed.

Super B™ is a comprehensive vitamin complex containing eight essential and energy-boosting B vitamins: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, and B12. The complete B-vitamin profile in Super B not only assists in maintaining healthy energy levels, but it also supports the nervous system, aids in maintaining normal cardiovascular function, and helps with internal enzyme reactions

Remember: I already warned you of my horrible bedhead!

After we get dressed, my son and I have our little “oily routine” which I’ve created to fit the unique needs he has. He needs some help during his day managing his emotions (don’t we all!!!), focusing on tasks, monitoring his energy output, and keeping in balance. In addition, we always use Thieves to support our immune system.

I know many have asked what oils they can use on their children, how to apply, and what this looks like. I thought this was a perfect opportunity to share our routine in hopes it might help you create your own. Remember, little ones like to do things themselves, so if you can put most of your oils in roller bottles, it will help everyone!

Here is what I use in the video:  Valor (more on Valor here), Grounding, Peace and Calming (more on Peace and Calming here), and also my Special Recipe, which is:

15 drops Cedarwood, 15 drops Lavender, and 15 drops Vetiver in about 1 T carrier oil (Grapeseed or Coconut oil). I use an empty bottle. I had an empty Lavender bottle and filled it and put a roller fitment on top.

I have a lot of goodies I use all day long, so I combined them here for you. They include:  Young Living Thieves Toothpaste, Lip Balm, ART Skin Care System, Joy (more on Joy here), Progessence Plus, and Thieves Foaming Hand Soap.

I forgot to mention one other item that I use daily in our home and floats between the kitchen counter, bathroom, and in my purse – Animal Scents. I use it for minor skin irritations, occasional dry and irritated skin, and even put it on our dog who likes to lick her underside – A LOT! Animal Scents™ Ointment is blended with Melaleuca alternifolia and Myrrh, two of nature’s most powerful essential oils. It is a soothing salve formulated for external use on animals, but we humans love to use it and benefit too!

Animal Scents Ointment

Mid-Day Routine

I take a few other supplements during the day and wanted to mention those – Sulfurzyme, which is a supplement I use to help support my immune system, and Life 5, a high potency probiotic.

Daily Young Living Supplements

I run my diffuser all day in my home, switching between calming oils like Peace and Calming. But also as I sit and write or catch up on emails, I need a boost – on this day I chose to use Abundance, which was a new oil I had just received. It was perfect! This diffuser is the one you get included with your Premium Starter Kit. I love it and have two of these in our home.

Diffusing Abundance Essential Oil

I end up spending quite a lot of time in my laundry room. I am in there every day – funny how that turns out. So I certainly wanted to share how I use my oils in my laundry room. You’ll hear me mention Lavender, Purification, Thieves Household Cleaner, as well as my favorite dryer balls, Woolzies.

I love having Thieves Household Cleaner right under my sink. I use it to spray down counters, cabinets, the kitchen table, I spray on fruits and vegetables to remove all the toxic chemicals before we eat – it is so versatile.

Thieves Cleaners

I have ventured out to using essential oils in recipes too! I love to experiment and what I enjoy about Young Living’s 100% Pure Essential Oils is that the Vitality line can be taken internally.

Evening Routine

Our evening routine involves a few more essential oils and I use them in a detox bath, both myself and for my little guy. I love Lavender, Rosemary, and Harmony mixed with Epsom Salt. I also make a bath salt recipe and will use some of that pre-made mixture and add extra Epsom Salt.

Essential Oils Soak

When it is time to settle in for the night, I start the diffuser in my little one’s room. We alternate between Thieves at night and Peace and Calming. I have a total of 6 diffusers in our home, of course two of the Young Living, and also I have managed to add the MIU diffuser, which I love for bedrooms because the light can be turned off and you can determine the output volume and duration – plus the price is very reasonable. I also have the H2EO Ultrasonic Diffuser, which I also like for the same reasons as the MIU, but it is a bit higher in price.

Peaceful Sleep with Essential Oils

My bedtime routine involves a few “must-have” oils. Just before I slip under the covers I roll on some RutaVala, which is great for getting a good night’s sleep. I love that it is small, easy to roll-on, and I can use it if I wake in the middle of the night, which I did often and could not go back to sleep. But for the most part I sleep well and for the entire night now, but it is there in case of an emergency! I also use ImmuPower, Exodus II, and EndoFlex, putting them on the bottom of my feet and under my big toe.

Night Time Oils

So, there you have it – a lot of information and A LOT of me! I hope you learned a few things and maybe expanded your knowledge of using essential oils.

This Busy Mom LOVES Stitch Fix

I shared with you my very first Stitch Fix back nearly a year ago!!  WOW – it doesn’t seem like that long ago, but it was.  When I mentioned again last week on Facebook about me getting a new Stitch Fix box, people began asking, “What is Stitch Fix”.  So came this post, especially after I realized it had been year ago that I had posted.

I have gotten a variety of clothes during the past year, some were great, like one of my favorite tops I wear all the time and is my ‘go-to’ top with jeans or pants.  But there were also items sent back as soon as I saw them, there was no need to even try them on.

I like to share with you practical ways you can save time and money, so when I come across something I find useful I want to share it!  Stitch Fix is one of those things.

How It Works

You go online, create an account, a style profile and then a stylist sends 5 items to you.  You try them on, decide what to keep and return the rest – postage paid!

What I love about Stitch Fix

  • I don’t have to go to the mall – someone else is picking out the clothes for me after reading my style profile I’ve created and sharing my Pinterest board with her.
  • The items arrive at my doorstep – woo hoo!
  • I can try clothes on in the comfort of my own house, even more than once too – for my daughter to give me her opinion as well as my husband or friends.
  • I get a personal note from my stylist, along with sample outfit cards to help me.  I am the person who is very uncreative with styling outfits, so I can venture outside my comfort zone with these little “coaching” cards as I affectionately refer to them as and actually be a bit more creative with ideas on how to interchange pieces with items I may already have.
  • When I share with a friend, like you – I get a styling credit, which means that I can use that credit for my own fixes – which is a SUPER a bonus.  So if you sign up and tell your friends about it, you can get FREE clothes too!

Here is what I got this month

Cute Red Sweater with Butterfly detailing and cute dainty buttons

A blue striped sweater

Pair of Jeans

Chevron Striped Skirt

Super Cute Green and Navy trim dress!

As I tried on the items I had to decide what to keep and what to return, this time I had several favorites.  The dress is totally my style and colors.  I love the jeans, but they fit just a bit too big, which was a real bummer as they were very nice.  The skirt was totally me, as this is my perfect piece for spring and summer – just add a t-shirt and go!  And then the red sweater.  I already had a red sweater, which was really plain – this one was a reasonable price and I loved the butterfly detailing, I wish I could have gotten a close up to show you the detail.

So what did I keep?

The Butterfly Pointelle Cardigan

Green Tank Dress  {LOVE!!}

Chevron Skirt

These are the items I kept and the style cards that came along.  Also, my note from the stylist – which I love.  She mentioned she was able to see what I had kept in past orders and it helped her determine what to send to me this time!  So cool!!  I had forgotten about the denim jacket I had received in a previous FIX, so when she mentioned it in the note with how I could use it with the dress, I was impressed!

For this order, most of my items were within the normal range of what I would expect to pay for nice quality clothing.  These are not Target or Old Navy prices….but not Ann Taylor either.  My dress was $88, the red sweater $38, the skirt was $48.  The jeans were higher priced at $98, so since they did not fit perfectly there was no way I was keeping them!  And the blue striped sweater went back as I did not like the colors and I didn’t need that type of sweater.

Try it Yourself!

So really you have nothing to lose to try the service, but $20.  If you get your fix and you do not like anything and return it all, you pay the $20 styling fee.  If you end up purchasing even one item, the $20 styling fee is deducted from your amount due.  So for example, if I had just kept the red sweater out of this order, I would have only paid an additional $18.

Here is the real bonus – if you get a great box full off lovely items and can’t decide what to return because you love them all, you get a 25% discount if you purchase all the items!!  That makes it even a sweeter deal!

Don’t forget – if you invite your friends using your special link, you also earn credit toward free clothing too – so why not try it out and share?  It has made my life easier with respect to clothing.  I hate the mall, don’t enjoy strolling stores and trying on clothing and quite honestly feel a bit frumpy these days, so when someone else can give me style tips and tell me what to wear – I like that!
