Over the years I have made changes in what I eat, cleaners I use, and what I put on my skin – all in an effort to bring complete health into our home. When we are intentional about the choices of products we use, it is amazing how the body can thrive!
One of the things I have been unable to switch over to was a homemade dishwasher detergent – until now! Finally, I have a simple recipe that is cost effective and truly does the job.
This recipe was shared on the Young Living Facebook page, so I thought I would give it a try. I did make a batch using Purification, but from now on I will be adding citrus oils instead. I love the fresh scents of Orange and Tangerine!
This is the recipe and the links to the ingredients. I love using Amazon Prime for my household needs!
- 1/2 cup Baking Soda (this one is a great value on Amazon)
- 1/2 cup Borax (this one is a great value on Amazon)
- 1/8 cup Citric Acid (this one is a great value on amazon)
- 25 drops of Young Living Essential Oil (choice is optional)
Mix the ingredients all up – super simple! Add 2 T per dishwashing cycle. I am experimenting to see if I can get away with less. I will let you know.
By using the Purification essential oil you are making a batch that will cost you $3.54 for about 12 loads. By using a citrus essential oil, like Orange, I can reduce the cost to $2.74 or $.23 per load. It certainly is not the cheapest detergent around, however, I love knowing exactly what I am using and to be honest, it was simple to keep on hand.
I store it in a glass jar under my sink with a cute little scoop.
Still waiting to get on board with essential oils? You’ll get a bottle of Purification in your Premium Starter Kit – so you can easily try out this recipe with it or your Lemon essential oil.
